Perenco Guatemala signs Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative.    


The signature of the agreement of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiave (EITI) for Guatemala took place in the National Palace of Culture, with the participation of government authorities, representatives of the World Bank, civil dignitaries and representatives of the private sector.
 
The EITI sets standards for revenues issued from the extraction of natural resources in member countries. This Initiative improves the governance of the country, its international credibility, and enforces the government's fight against corruption, thus creating stability for business.
 
The Initiative includes the audit and publication of accounts, which is the basis of transparency for the extractive Industries of Guatemala. There are also specifications for each sector, as well as information on resources obtained from the exploitation of natural resources and the registration of those revenues, in order to achieve greater transparency.
 
The National steering committee of EITI Guatemala is presided over by the  Secretary of Control and Transparency and  coordinated by the Ministry of Energy and Mines. Its executive board involves the following institutions : the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Environment and Natural resources;  the civil society is represented by the Guatemala section of Transparency International,  Convergencia Indígena Kabawil, Indigenous Association for Integral community development, The Rural University, and for the private sector, Gremial de Minas and Perenco.
 
The General Manager of Perenco signed the agreement determined to play an active role in the committee and as the head of a responsible company in Guatemala, committed to full transparency.
