On August 3rd, 2012, the Bureau of Energy Environmental Affairs (DGAAE) of the Peruvian Energy and Mines Ministry, approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Project of Development Phase of Block 67, located in the province and region of Loreto.
This milestone marks the beginning of construction activities and future production of Block 67 reserves, activities on which Perenco will strictly follow the highest international standards of the oil industry, using state of the art technology, both surface and underground. The project will be developed with a number of firsts in Peru to minimize the impact of the project and to safeguard the environment.
As part of the project, Perenco's firm commitment to social inclusion will continue, strengthening ties with local communities and jointly developing sustainable social projects where Perenco can make a positive contribution. For example, the hospital barge BAP Pastaza, operated by the Peruvian Navy and its staff from the Regional Government of Loreto, will continue to receive all the necessary logistical support to bring free health services to remote communities located in the Napo, Arable and Curaray basin.
The approval of this environmental study opens an opportunity to develop the key reserves of the Maranon Basin and demonstrate that responsible oil exploitation is key for local, regional and national development and is compatible with environmental conservation.
