Nina Flore ZOGO MBOULOU

Gabon Human Resources Manager

Nina initially trained as a teacher; her main focus is to be as close as possible to her Perenco Gabon collaborators, to hear their aspirations and accompany their careers. She is committed and passionate about her job within the Human Resources Department, which she joined in 2012 and is now heading.

What is your background? What is your career pathway ?

I wanted to be a teacher, more specifically a German teacher. But German was not taught at Libreville University in Gabon so I chose English. After my Masters’ degree I enrolled at Ecole Normale Supérieure (teacher training school) and I got my CAPES (teacher qualification). During my training I spent a year in London. When I came back I taught in Port-Gentil and then in 2002 in Franceville. That same year, wishing to do something during my holidays, I accepted an acting role as administrative assistant at the Gabon Oil Union in Port-Gentil. This is where I discovered the oil sector.
After my contract I was offered to continue with a three-month cover at Marathon Oil Gabon Limited, which finally lasted seven years! I was the assistant to the General Manager. I was responsible for translating all letters and interpreting during meetings with external partners, especially the General Hydrocarbons Directorate. When the Associations manager left his position in 2008 I was chosen to replace him.
In 2009 I "turned" Perenco when Marathon Oil Gabon Limited was taken over. I first collaborated with the General Manager who was responsible for Associations and Communication. In 2012 following restructuring, I joined the Human Resources Department. First, I was put in charge of the communication before being appointed head of HR Department, then HR Deputy Director and finally Human Resources Manager since June 2018.

What does your job entail and which challenges do you face ?

I am in charge of a team of 17 people working in four main areas. The first one is staff administration and international mobility. This is about managing working time with holidays and absences; all social aspects, dealing with health insurance and organising medical visits; and finally the administrative management of our expatriates and staff in rotation.
The second area deals with local staff recruitment and career management. It is about managing the meet and greet for newly hired employees and for young people under apprenticeship contracts (we had over 40 people this year) -a real breeding ground for the company.
We are also in charge of training. Every year we define a training plan following individual appraisals. We organise statutory security training and skills-oriented training. A team is responsible for zero-rate loans and payroll for just over 550 local collaborators.
Finally two people are in charge of social relationships. They monitor the evolution of laws and regulations and attend meetings between the General Directorate and staff delegates and follow up the implementation of actions resulting from these meetings.

For my part I have a real role as a conductor. I must ensure that teams operate in all synergy and harmoniously.

My main challenge is the social climate. It is an ever-present challenge. We must be very careful to address the concerns of the company's employees.

Which corporate value(s) do you most admire at Perenco?

Passion.
"Nothing great is accomplished without passion". »

What would you say to convince someone to join Perenco?

When I arrived Perenco was a small company. Today Perenco is a major player in the Gabon economy.
Each collaborator can grow here, exactly like the company. Those who are involved are always rewarded...
